Munich – 14 February 2026 — On the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, DRC Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner met with U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Allison Hooker to discuss regional security and the strengthening of bilateral cooperation.

Their discussions focused on the situation in the Great Lakes region, particularly ongoing instability in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. Both officials reviewed progress on the Washington Agreement signed in late 2025, as well as the ceasefire framework emerging from the Doha process, aimed at reducing hostilities and restoring state authority in conflict-affected areas.

Beyond security matters, the meeting highlighted the growing strategic partnership between the DRC and the United States, especially around critical minerals and supply chains. With the DRC playing a central role in global cobalt and copper production, cooperation in this sector has become increasingly important for both economic development and global energy transition goals.

Held annually in Germany, the Munich Security Conference gathers world leaders and senior policymakers to address pressing global security challenges. The exchange between Kinshasa and Washington reflects continued diplomatic engagement as both nations seek to link peacebuilding efforts with economic cooperation in the region.
